KATHMANDU: Nepal is preparing to compete against the UAE in the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier today, with the match taking place at the Sevens Stadium in the UAE.
In their fifth match on Tuesday, Nepal achieved a commanding victory over Kuwait, winning by 165 runs.
Captain Puja Mahato had a remarkable game, excelling as both a batter and a bowler. She scored more than a century and took five wickets, making her the first Nepali cricketer to accomplish this in a single match.
After winning the toss, Nepal opted to bat first, amassing 213 runs for the loss of two wickets in 20 overs.
In reply, Kuwait struggled to meet the target of 214 runs, being bowled out for just 48 runs in 13 overs.
Kuwait's captain, Zeefa Jilani, was the top scorer with 36 runs, hitting seven boundaries off 42 balls, while no other Kuwaiti player reached double figures. Nepal also gave away seven extra runs to Kuwait.
The tournament includes four teams: UAE, Nepal, Kuwait, and Thailand. The top team will earn a spot in the World Cup, which is set to take place in Malaysia in 2025.
