Foreign tourists who had been stuck in various parts of Nepal due to the prohibitory order that was imposed to control the spread of the second wave of the coronavirus will be exempted from paying visa fees and fines while departing the country.
The discount is being provided also because the government had halted the operation of all regular international flights due to which foreign travellers could not leave the country as per their schedule.
The Department of Immigration has issued a notice mentioning that foreign tourists who had visas that were valid till April 28 will be provided exemptions on charges levied while departing the country till July 15. The notice states that the exemption will be provided by the department’s office in Tribhuvan International Airport at the time of departure.
As per the rules, foreign tourists who overstay their visas have to pay $3 per day as visa fees and another $5 in fines per day for overstaying their visas. The department has mentioned that those foreign tourists who have applied to stay for a longer period in Nepal from July 9 and those who depart the country after July 15 will be levied all applicable fees.
According to the prevailing immigration rules a visa is valid for 150 days, however due to the prohibitory order and restriction on international flights the timeframe has been extended to 210 days.
