As many as 294 summiteers of 42 groups have been granted permission for climbing the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, this year. This is by far the highest number of groups receiving a permit for climbing the peak according to the information shared by the Department of Tourism under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

This is slightly higher than the number of climbers getting permission for the same in the year 2019. As informed, only 41 groups of mountaineers had obtained permission for Mount Everest ascent in 2019.

The number is still likely to go up this time as there is a possibility for more climbers to turn up to seek permission. According to the Department, 82 mountaineers' groups, including 42 groups for Mount Everest have received permits.

The second-highest number of mountaineers obtaining permission is 13 for the ascent to the Lhotse summit. Five groups have obtained permission for climbing the Dhaulagiri Mountain while it is eight for the Annapurna Mountain.

Climbing the summit has received wider attraction with Nepal Government keeping the mountaineering open during all 365 days.

Mount Everest climbing would start this week if the weather remained favourable. Due to the pandemic, climbing the peak and mountaineering had been postponed in the summer of 2020. The resumption of mountaineering is soon going to happen although the second wave crisis is at hand.

Revenue received so far from summer mountaineering royalty is Rs 530 million, shared the Mountaineering Section under the Department. The year 2021 remained promising in terms of royalty collection which amounted to Rs 510 million.
