Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has said there are no plans to privatise Nepal Airlines Corporation.

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) has said there are no plans to either privatise Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) or sell any majority stake of the corporation to a private sector company.

The ministry has said it has received the management strategy and the working guidelines to run NAC as a public limited company but there are no such plans to transform the national flag carrier into a private company.

On Sunday, former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai had issued a statement wherein he had criticised concerned authorities regarding their plans to sell Nepal Airlines Corporation to a private sector company at a very cheap price.

However, the ministry has stated that there have been no discussions held at the ministry related to privatising Nepal Airlines. Meanwhile, the ministry has not mentioned anything about NAC being transformed into a public limited company.

Earlier, the management committee of NAC had forwarded the management strategy and working guidelines to transform the corporation to a public company to MoCTCA as sought by the Ministry of Finance.

Since then the employees of the national flag carrier have been protesting against the government’s plan to convert NAC into a public company. In fact, the employees had even padlocked the managing director’s office in protest against the plans.
