The Second Nepali Professionals' Summit concluded in Berlin, Germany on Saturday.
The Summit was jointly organized by the Embassy of Nepal and GIZ, Kathmandu on May 10-11 with the objective of providing a platform to professional Nepali Diaspora in Germany to exchange knowledge, skills and experiences.
The Summit was jointly inaugurated by Ambassador of Nepal to Germany Ram Kaji Khadka and GIZ Country Manager Florain Krins, according to the Embassy of Nepal in Berlin.
In his inaugural address, Ambassador Khadka said that Germany as a favoured destination has attracted a large number of professionals from Nepal and expressed his hope of further opening up the opportunity for Nepalis as Germany has recently amended its Skilled Migration Act.
Nepal is making attempts included establishment of the National Brain Gain Centre and enactment of Non-Resident Nepali Act and Regulations, and amendment in the Citizenship Act, in order to encourage the Nepali Diaspora to contribute in socio-economic development of their motherland.
During the summit, several panel discussions were organised on themes such as Harnessing Diaspora's Knowledge capital: Going beyond Conventional Remittance, agenda of gender mainstreaming in Nepal: Role and Expectations of Nepali Diaspora and Nepal's Tourism in Post-COVID Scenario and Role of Nepali Diaspora.
Three parallel sessions were organised on the second day of the Summit including on Climate Change and Energy, Health and Information Technology and Digitization.
On the occasion, Representative of FAO Guilia Castro made a presentation on the newly launched Diaspora Agri-Entrepreneurship Programme.
Saurav Koirala, GIZ Kathmandu made a presentation on GIZ Programme PMD and MEG and how it contributes in developing synergy between diaspora in Germany and home country.
Delivering the closing remarks, Ambassador Khadka expressed his satisfaction over the enthusiastic participation of the professionals from Nepali Diaspora living in Germany. He encouraged to organise similar events on a regular basis to bring the professionals of Nepali diaspora together to strengthen their own expertise and contribute in the socio-economic transformation of Nepal.
Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Chiranjeewee Chataut, Head of Internal Medicine, Bheri Hospital Dr Rajan Pande and Under Secretary at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Narayan Timilsina participated in the Summit.
Around 70 professionals from Nepali Diaspora living in Germany participated in the Summit.
