Study committee formed to name Pokhara a tourism capital

A study committee has been formed for announcing Pokhara as the tourism capital.

The committee was formed under the coordination of Dr Krishna Chandra Devkota, Vice Chair of Gandaki Province Planning Commission, to implement the current policy and programme of the government.

The members of the study committee represent ministries of industry, tourism and environment, planning, Pokhara Tourism Council, media among others. Tourism experts Dr Ramji Sharma and Basu Dev Tripathi are also the members.

The member secretary of the committee is chief of planning and tourism division of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment at the province.

Earlier, the Ministry had prepared a concept note on how Pokhara could be developed as tourism capital of the country. The committee is formed based on the concept note.

Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey informed that the study committee has formed to identify the areas for which tourism infrastructures and services and develop tourism as the base of prosperity.

The committee has been asked to furnish the report within a month.
