During the market monitoring conducted by the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection to stop the malpractices that take place in the market it found more than 1,000 businesses had been involved in various types of misconduct.
In fiscal year 2020/21, the department found 1,035 businesses entities indulging in inappropriate trade activities and initiated action against them.
According to the department, it inspected 2,947 firms in the last fiscal year. Among them, 1,597 were suggested for general improvements while 397 firms were directed to furnish required documents. The department has also sought clarifications from the erring businesses.
The department also collected samples of products for laboratory tests from 37 businesses. It informed that 38 firms had been asked to close their businesses. Similarly, a case has been filed against 19 people and three vehicles have been taken under control.
Shibaraj Shedhai, Spokesperson of the department, shared that the department had collected revenue worth Rs 23.98 million in the last fiscal. Meanwhile, adulterated food items worth Rs 37.38 million were destroyed during the period.
