ICAN second convention kicks off

The second national convention of accounting professionals has kicked off in Kathmandu.

Chairperson of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN), the host, Bhaskar Singh Lala shared that the conference was organized to inform about the existing national and international practice in accounting profession, coordinate with concerned agencies for building financial good governance and contribute to strengthen economy by enhancing the role of ICAN members.

In his address to the inaugural session of the conference, Auditor-General Tanka Mani Sharma highlighted the crucial role of accounting professionals in keeping compliance for fiscal discipline in the country.

He shed light on the important role of accounting professionals to dig out the issues associated with financial irregularities.

'Irregularities are increasing day after day. Tax settlement has become sluggish. It is also the responsibility of the auditors to see the irregularities surfaced in the private sector', Auditor-General Sharma said.

He asked the accounting professionals to look after such issues in a professional manner which he said would help reduce irregularities.

The role of the chartered accountants is not only to rectify the financial transactions of the state agencies and public enterprises but also to maintain financial discipline, he said.

Sharma further highlighted the need of maintaining professional credibility through dignified accounting professionalism.

Also on the occasion, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Baburam Subedi said the financial report prepared by accounting professionals reflects the face of the state.

A total of four sessions will be held in the two-day conference. As informed, working papers would be presented in different topics along with the screening of the organization related documentary on the occasion.
