Repair of border pillars along Nepal-India border begins from today

Repair of 317 borer pillars from Mechinagar to Gaurigunj in Jhapa on the Nepal-India border has begun from today. A technical team from the Armed Police Force, Bhadrapur-2 launched the drive by repairing the reference border pillar (No 91/1) under the permanent border pillar (No 55) at Satighatta of Mechinagar Municipality-7 amid a function today.

Mayor of Mechinagar Municipality Gopal Chandra Budhathoki, mayor of Bhadrapur Municipality Ganesh Pokharel, brigade chief of the APF number 1 brigade headquarters Anjani Kumar Pokharel and chief of the Nepal Police, Koshi Province Rajesh Nath Bastola jointly inaugurated the repair.

The maintenance of the Nepal-India border pillars has started for the first time in Koshi Province, said the brigade chief Pokharel. There are the total 957 border pillars along the 430 km long open border with India throughout Koshi Province, and 1,500 workforces have been mobilised for the border security, he informed.

As per the agreement of the Nepal-India border working group, even number border pillars will be repaired by the Indian side, and odd number pillars by the Nepali side. The Indian side already maintained even number pillars in Jhapa district.

The Nepali side will repair 317 odd numbered border pillars along the 144 km open border from Mechinagar to Gaurigunj in Jhapa district, said battalion chief of the APF number 2 battalion Debraj Aryal.

Similarly, repair of border pillars in Kailali and Kanchanpur districts will start from today as well. Maintenance of the border pillars will begin today from Bangrakatan in Kailali and Dokebazaar in Kanchanpur, said Deputy Inspector General, APF Kumar Neupane, chief of the APF number 7, Baijanath headquarter, Attariya.
