Police in Kathmandu on Friday arrested six persons selected under Electronic Diversity Visa Lottery programme for producing forged academic certificates.
The arrested have been identified as Sumit Ratna Gubhaju (35) of Tansen-3, Palpa district; Amar Bahadur Katwal (35) of Pathri-6, Morang district; Naresh KC (30) of Gaidakot-3, Nawalparasi district; Laxman Pathak (33) of Devchuli-17, Nawalparasi district; Dip Bista (33) of Banepa-10, Kavrepalanchok district, and Sohili Shahi (23) of Teku in KMC-12.
They were selected for EDV-2020 but they did not have the required educational certificates for the visa process. They had presented fake +2 transcripts at the US Embassy, Kathmandu for visas. The security personnel deployed from Maharajgunj-based Metropolitan Crime Division in coordination with the US embassy arrested them from different places in Kathmandu.
Subsequently, MPD also recovered transcript, migration, character certificate, provisional certificate of +2 and SLC-related mark sheet, and migration certificates from Gubhaju. The police also recovered a verification letter issued by NEB and a passport (10364878) from the possession of arrestees.
Similarly, police also confiscated the academic transcript of HSEB, the mark sheet of SLC, and the verification letter issued by NEB from the possession of Katuwal. Police also seized two passports (3124518) and (07927204) from his possession.
Likewise, the police seized the academic transcript of HSEB, a verification letter issued by NEB, and a passport (12000235) from KC's possession.
The arrested have been handed over to the Metropolitan Police Range, Teku for necessary action under the offence related to Paragraph 25 of Criminal (Code) Act, 2074 (2017), informed MPD.
Meanwhile, the search is on for others involved in making forged documents.
