Police arrested a man who had been convicted of banking offences and was absconding from Balaju in Kathmandu Metropolitan-16 on Sunday.
The accused has been identified as Shakti Bhujel (30), a local resident of Belbari Municipality-7 in Morang district.
Patan High Court had convicted Bhujel of banking offences and fined him Rs 0.92 million along with a sentence of 14 days of imprisonment on February 17.
Bhujel allegedly had taken money from various people by promising to send them to Australia. Bhujel had given a cheque of Nabil Bank worth Rs 0.92 million to the victim but there were insufficient funds in the account.
Security personnel deployed from the Maharajgunj-based Central Investigation Bureau nabbed him from Bohoratar, Kathmandu.
He has been submitted to Lalitpur District Court to implement the decision, informed the CIB.
Similarly, police on Sunday arrested a man who had been convicted of banking offences and was absconding from Birtamod Municipality-5 in Jhapa district.
The accused has been identified as Narendra Timisina (36), a resident of Taplejung district.
Biratnagar High Court had convicted Timsina of banking offences and fined him Rs 34 lakh along with a sentence of 15 days of imprisonment on April 12, 2021. He also had to deposit Rs 136,000 in the victim's relief fund.
Jhapa-based District Police Office (DPO) personnel nabbed him from Taplejung.
He has been presented to Jhapa District Court and the court will send the accused to Jhapa-based Chandragadhi Prison, informed DPO, Jhapa.
Meanwhile, police on Saturday arrested an absconding man who had been convicted of a fraud case from Byas Municipality-11 in Tanahun district.
The accused has been identified as Ram Bahadur Balkoti (44), a local resident of Ranigaun in the same municipality.
Patan High Court had convicted Balkoti on fraud offences and fined him Rs 175,119 and sentenced him to 2.2 years on December 23, 2003.
Security personnel deployed from the Tanahun-based District Police Office nabbed Balkoti.
Further investigation into the cases is being carried out, informed the police.
