KATHMANDU: Rojina Shrestha, a candidate from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has been elected as the ward chairperson for Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16.
Shrestha won with 2,902 votes out of a total of 10,558, defeating her competitors.
Nepali Congress candidate Devendra Pathak received 2,204 votes, while Laxmi Ratna Tuladhar of the CPN-UML placed third with 2,220 votes.
Other contenders included Shyam Krishna Shrestha from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) with 774 votes, and Min Bahadur Manandhar from the CPN-Unified Socialist Party, who earned 1,082 votes.
In the 2079 BS elections, the Nepali Congress had won this seat, but the rise of the RSP signals a notable shift in the political scene.
