Police on Thursday arrested two persons who allegedly swindled Rs 1,379,000 out of a person in exchange for scripts claiming it to be ancient valuable scripture in Gokarneshwor Municipality-8, Kathmandu district.
The arrested have been identified as Ashish Tamang (20) of Shivapuri Rural Municipality-1 in Nuwakot district, currently residing in Makalbari, Kathmandu, and Rajin Rai (30) of Ramprasad Rural Municipality-7 in Bhojpur district, currently residing in Saraswatinagar, Chabahil, KMC-7. Police identified the victim as a permanent resident of Chaudandigadhi Municipality-8 in Udayapur district, currently residing in Aarubari, Gokarneshwor-8.
Acting on the complaint, a team of security personnel deployed from the Metropolitan Crime Division, Minbhawan arrested the duo for allegedly selling the scripture claiming it to be ancient archaeological Buddhist texts, in Aarubari. The duo allegedly made a deal with the victim to exchange the scripture for Rs 38.5 million. However, they swindled Rs 1,379,000 out of him on July 29.
Meanwhile, the arrestees have been handed over to the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu for necessary action while the investigation is underway, police informed.
