The ruling CPN-UML party has suggested the government to get the Media Council Bill passed so as to establish the Media Council and also pass and implement the Public Service Broadcasting Bill.
It has also called for establishment of the much-awaited National Mass Media Authority, promotion of media run by working journalists with small investment, implementation of the Digital Nepal Framework and ensuring health insurance coverage and free medical treatment facility for working journalists in the country.
The aforementioned suggestions have been made in a list of 30 points recommendations handed over by CPN (UML) Central Publicity and Publications Department to Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung. The recommendations submitted on Wednesday include short-term and long-term initiatives to be taken in the field of media and communications.
Head of the Department and Standing Committee Member Rajendra Gautam handed over the recommendations including 17 points related to media sector and 13 points concerning policy and structural changes to Communications Minister Gurung.
On the occasion, Minister Gurung expressed the commitment to implement the recommendations made on behalf of the party, according to Ganesh Pandey, a member of the UML Central Publicity Department.
