The song ‘Char Dewar ko kothama’ has probably been one of the go-to songs for many during this COVID era when we all were locked inside the four walls.

But would you have guessed that the song is not even about the lockdown itself?

The 19-year-old singer and songwriter, Samir Shrestha, who has achieved a lot of fandom in the Nepali music industry explains the song was written way before COVID hit us all.

The first original song that blew up and has gotten millions of views on YouTube was written when he was only in grade 8.

Shrestha says, “It was meant to be a song about a long-distance relationship. And if you had told me that this song is going to get 10k views someday I would not have believed you.

“It seemed impossible for Shrestha in the beginning. Even now it feels like a dream to me,” he adds.

While he is totally caught by surprise that he has gotten so much love for his first song, the song has gotten 1.4 million views and is still counting.

Reminiscing about his musical journey, Shrestha shared about being a big fan of music from a very young age.

“I used to listen to a lot of songs and practiced singing all the time. While I did not imagine actually be doing what I love, I started my music career by making Youtube videos of me singing cover songs,” adds Shrestha.

At first, Samir started out by recording songs using earphones on his phone as he did not have the luxury to go to a recording studio.

Shrestha talks about how he always had his earphones with him.

“My voice was not as good as it is now when I first started out. But that did not stop me from signing, and I practiced a lot,” says Shrestha.

And just like any good thing takes time, his journey from recording songs on earphones to being a nationwide internet sensation took 7 long years.

Samir’s songs are deep, soulful and they represent such strong feelings.

And talking about his inspiration, Shrestha says “I will always appreciate the love and support my family and friends have shown to me. It not only pushes me to do better but always keeps fueling my passion.”

Shrestha’s hard work is definitely paying off now. He not only has a huge fandom among youngsters, even in any social media platform whether it be YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok, Shrestha’s songs can be heard everywhere.

The young artist has already reached millions of people and won their hearts already but Shrestha still aims to do a lot more in the industry.

"I don't think I have achieved anything yet and there is more to come, my journey has just started and I would not want to let my fans down," said Samir.

Many young talented individuals are stepping into the Nepali music industry.

And being a young artist himself, Shrestha says it is important for the young generation to not lose hope and keep trying.

Shrestha says, “Even I didn’t expect to reach out to many people through my songs in such a short time, so be hopeful for tomorrow guys as no one knows what tomorrow holds.”

The young artist, who has recently joined Garage Entertainment, a talent management agency, hopes to do more in the industry.
