India reports 386,452 new COVID-19 cases

India's COVID-19 tally reached 18,762,976 on Friday, as 386,452 new cases were recorded during the past 24 hours, said the federal health ministry.

Besides, as many as 3,498 deaths across the country since Thursday morning took the total death toll to 208,330.

There are still a total of 3,170,228 active cases in the country, with an increase of 85,414 active cases through Thursday, as 15,384,418 people have been cured and discharged from hospitals so far across the country.

Delhi has been put under a second successive weeklong lockdown till May 3.

The number of daily active cases has been on the rise over the past few weeks. In January the number of daily cases in the country had come down to below-10,000.

So far over 152 million vaccination doses (152,245,179) have been administered to people across the country.

Meanwhile, the federal government has ramped up COVID-19 testing facilities across the country.

As many as 286,392,086 tests were conducted till Thursday, out of which 1,920,107 tests were conducted on Thursday alone, according to the latest data issued by the Indian Council of Medical Research on Friday.

The national capital Delhi, which has been one of the most COVID-19 affected places in the country, witnessed over 24,000 new cases and 395 deaths through Thursday.

So far, 15,772 people have died in the national capital due to COVID-19, confirmed by Delhi's health department.
