Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma said the conspiracy was being hatched against federalism.

Inaugurating the 7th establishment day of Anbukhaireni Rural Municipality in Tanahun on Saturday, Minister Sharma, also the government spokesperson, said it was saddening to note the expressions that federalism was the expensive and showy system.

Such expressions were sometimes articulated in the parliament and sometimes in the streets and by some important persons in public forums, the minister said, adding, "It was wrong to raise voice against federalism. Such voice should not emerge".

"What was the number of Village Development Committees in the past? How many of them were remunerated from state coffer? What were the costs involved in? What is the size of the present rural municipality? How many are the office-bearers now? These questions should be well-understood", she said, adding, "Having a good understanding of the details would help us come up with evidence to support the statement that federalism was not an expensive project".

It might be a different review of the size of governments during times of political instability, the minister noted.

"There are five representatives with a chairperson in a ward. With this, spending could not be bigger than that of the past. There is a vast difference in service delivery in the past and present", the minister claimed.

She went on to say that it was wrong to go against the three-tier governments citing the reference to past mistakes. "The operational process and rights have been well-scripted in the Constitution", Minster Sharma said, stressing the need to effectively and efficiently deliver public services from the local governments in a way that people feel the presence of a new governance system. ---
