Three arrested from TIA for smuggling gold

Police have arrested three persons from the Kathmandu-based Tribhuvan International Airport along with gold chains worth more than Rs 2.5 million.

Chief of the Airport Security Office at the Tribhuvan International Airport and Senior Superintendent of Police Bhim Prasad Dhakal said that gold chains has been seized from three persons.

He said that the police recovered three gold chains weighing 99.96 grams each. They have been handed over to the Tribhuvan Airport Customs Office, Gauchar, for further investigation.

Among the arrested are Sukuram Lama, 32, of Rasuwa, Pemba Thokra, 27, of the same place, and Buddhiman Tamang, 22. All three had brought gold illegally by making false bottoms on the waist of their. The value of the gold is more than Rs 2.556 million, the airport security office said in a statement today.
