11 arrested for arms smuggling, murder in Kapilvastu

Police in Kapilvastu district arrested 11 people involved in arms smuggling, murder, and organised crime on Monday.

The arrested have been identified as Mahima Pandey, Om Prakash Yadav, Purnabir Palpali Kumhal, Saadam Hussein Khan, Gyanendra Kumar Pandey, Radheshyam Chaudhary, Shreeram Kurmi, Nasrat Ali, Prabin Gupta, Ramjan Shah Musalman, and Sakir Ali Pakhiya, all residents of Kapivastu district.

Deepak Pandey, a local resident of Kapilvastu Municipality-1, had been shot at by unknown persons which led to severe injuries. He died at Bhairahawa-based Medical College while undergoing treatment on May 24, informed Kapilvastu-based District Police Office (DPO).

After learning about his wife (Mahima Pandey) having an illicit relationship with Om Prakash Pandey, the husband and wife had an argument after which Mahima used Om Prakash's henchmen to shoot Deepak Pandey on May 19.

The police also recovered one pistol, magazine, and 68 bullets from Om Prakash Yadav, a pistol and two bullets used by Sakir Ali Pakhiya, and an automatic pistol, magazines, and eight bullets used by Ramjan Shah Musalman from their possession.

They have been charged under organised crime law and further investigation into the matter is underway, informed District Police Office, Kapilvastu.
