A total of 48 people have been killed in road accidents in Tanahu in a year. According to the District Traffic Police Office, 37 men, eight women, and three children have lost their lives in the fiscal year 2077/78 BS.

A total of 44 people were killed in road accidents in 2076 BS and 60 in 2075 BS. In the last three years, 152 people have died in road accidents in the district. Chief of the Traffic Police Office, Dolendra Bahadur Hamal, said that accidents took place at 90 places in the Tanahu section of the 72-kilometer Prithvi Highway last year. During that time, 128 vehicles were involved in accidents. According to him, 66 motorcycles and scooters, 18 trucks and tankers, 17 jeeps, 17 tractors, five buses, four microbuses, and one tipper were involved in the accident.

According to the office, 76 people were seriously injured and 51 others received minor injuries in the accident. The district has the highest number of two-wheeler accidents. "Motorcycles and scooters are more likely to be involved in accidents due to the high number of two-wheeled vehicles," said Hamal.

He said that the topography of the road and potholes were also the major causes of road accidents. "There are potholes in places on the Prithvi Highway, which is also increasing the risk of accidents," he said. He informed that the police is also conducting a campaign to reduce the number of accidents. A 'One Minute with Driver' program has been conducted for the drivers and pedestrians.

Most of the accidents in the district are on the Prithvi Highway. Powerhouses at Kotre, Gachepani, Akala, Gunadi, Kamalbari, Nahala, Vimalnagar, and Aabukhaireni under Prithvi Highway are the most accident-prone areas
