COVID-19 recovery rate in Sudurpaschim Province at 55 per cent

Of the total 40,573 COVID-19 infected persons recorded in Sudurpaschim Province as of now, 55 per cent have enjoyed full recovery, according to the Health Directorate in Dipayal.

The number of those recovered from the flu-like infection in the Province stands at 22,250 while 428 have succumbed to deadly infection in the Province.

The population of the Province is 2,552,517. Among them only 8 per cent i.e. 29,228 have undergoing PCR and antigen tests for coronavirus infection. A total of 171,763 had undergone PCR test while 35,119 under antigen test.

The infection rate in the Province has spiked with the outbreak and spread of second wave of Covid-19. Kailali and Kanchanpur are the hardest hit districts in the Province.

The reports of the past 24 hours from Province-based 12 health facilities providing the COVID-19 treatment stated that 42 patients were receiving the ICU care and 12 were on a ventilator support.

According to Dhangadhi-based Seti Provincial Hospital remaining as the sole ‘referral’ hospital in the Province said till Saturday 815 infected who make up around 86 percent of inpatients have returned home since the spread of second wave of Covid-19.

The total number of admitted infected since the outbreak of second wave is 943 while the death toll is 145 (around 15 percent).

On Saturday, 103 were receiving medical support at the hospital.

In the past 24 hours, nine (new) patients were admitted while ten returned home.

Likewise, 16 are in the ICU. So far, hospital’s PCR lab produced 16,221 positive reports.

Hospital information officer Adhikari Dilip Kumar Shrestha, the late arrivals of patients with severe symptoms make it challenging to save their lives.

“As we are late to access to treatment, the death risk is high,’’ he said worryingly.

The shortage of oxygen gas the hospital was facing with the spread of second wave of virus has been addressed after the installation of oxygen concentrators last week.
