Eight die after consuming toxic home-brewed liquor in Sarlahi

Eight people, including three Indian nationals, have died since the last four days after consuming poisonous home-brewed liquor at Padariya, Brahmapuri Rural Municipality-5 in Sarlahi district. Padariya village is close to the Nepal-India border.

They all died after drinking toxic locally-made liquor, Rural Municipality Chair Binod Saha said. Three more locals who consumed the toxic liquor and had fallen ill have returned home after treatment.

The deceased are 50-year-old Ram Ishwar Paswan, 39-year-old Dinkar Das, 65-year-old Kailu Das, 50-year-old Jugeshwar Majhi and 24-year-old Balindra Das. Similarly, 35-year-old Dataram Nishad, 55-year-old Shiva Sagar Nishad and 32-year-old Sarbes Ram Nishad of Uttar Pradesh, India died of the same cause, Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh Rathour, Chief of the District Police Office Sarlahi, said.

The three Indian victims are workers at the Chandan Brick Industry Padariya.

Officiating Medical Superintendent at the District Hospital Malangawa, Dr Nawal Kishor Jha said although it is said they all died after drinking contaminated liquor, they were preparing to send their viscera to the National Forensic Lab in Kathmandu for further test.
