Due to the continuous rainfall in Dadeldhura for the past five days, Ghatal Than, a famous pilgrimage site in Sudurpaschim Province has been submerged. The temple holds great significance for the Hindus as it has also been mentioned in the Mahabaharat and is named after one of the sons of Bhim, a Pandava.
The tourism infrastructure that was being constructed in the area close to Ghatal Than has also been destroyed by the flood. Ghatal Than is located in Amargadhi Municipality-3, which is on the banks of the Doti River in the foothills of the Mahabharat range.
Krishna Raj Bohara, Chairperson of the Regional Development Committee of the district, informed that tourism infrastructure worth Rs 14.1 million had been damaged. He mentioned that the site to place the main idol of the temple and the parapet had been damaged. Similarly, the cremation area and the resting place for tourists that were being constructed have also been destroyed.
