MoHP records 1,957 new COVID cases, 11 deaths on Tuesday

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) on Tuesday confirmed the detection of 1,957 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 968,611. Additionally, 773 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.


Likewise, the MoHP has recorded 11 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The ministry on May 19 recorded 184 deaths, the highest daily number. As of Tuesday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 11,838. Presently, there are 36,181 active cases in Nepal.


Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley alone have recorded 456 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu logged 338 cases, Lalitpur logged 70 cases and Bhaktapur logged 48 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.


As many as 5,103 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Sunday, a total of 920,592 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 95 percent while the fatality rate is 1.3 percent.


Earlier, the MoHP on Monday confirmed the detection of 1,386 new cases of coronavirus infection.


As of Tuesday, a total of 5,291,959 people have undergone the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 34,983 people staying in isolation while 140 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.


398,240,173 people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 5,769,634 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in 2019-December, COVID-19 Global tracker data shown by Reuters. It has been reported that COVID-19 infections are still rising in 132 countries where The United States is the new hotspot of COVID-19 facing a daily surge of rapid infections.
