MoHP reports 1,619 new COVID-19 cases, 16 deaths on Thursday

Nationwide COVID tally hits 765,914; death toll reaches 10,786

Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Sunday reported 1,688 new cases of coronavirus infection.

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Thursday confirmed the detection of 1,619 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 765,914. Additionally, 385 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the MoHP has recorded 16 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The ministry on May 19 recorded 246 deaths, the highest daily number. As of Thursday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 10,786. Presently, there are 33,946 active cases in Nepal.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 793 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu logged 541 cases, Lalitpur logged 152 cases and Bhaktapur logged 100 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.

As many as 1,846 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Thursday, a total of 721,182 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 94.2 per cent while the fatality rate is 1.5 per cent.

Earlier, the MoHP on Wednesday had reported 1,648 cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the nationwide tally to 764,295.

As of Thursday, a total of 3,936,416 people have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 33,946 people staying in isolation while 302 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

Meanwhile, 2,134,848 people have been administered the first dose of AstraZeneca vaccines and 1,232,851 have been vaccinated with the booster dose. Likewise, 3,289,988 people have been vaccinated with the first dose of the Vero Cell vaccine while 2,070,859 others have received the second dose as of September 1, 2021, the Ministry's data showed. Similarly, a total of 1,363,618 persons — 190,890 in Province 1; 273,010 in Province 2; 343,547 in Bagmati Province; 103,187 in Gandaki Province; 252,080 in Lumbini Province, 67,511 in Karnali Province, and 133,393 in Sudurpaschim Province — have been vaccinated with single-shot Janssen vaccines.

Meanwhile, 11,700 vaccines doses have been administered in the last 24 hours, as per the health ministry report.

More than 218.42 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 4,702,000 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in 2019-December, COVID-19 Global tracker data shown by Reuters. It has been reported that COVID-19 infections are still rising in 65 countries where The United States is the new hotspot of COVID-19 facing a daily surge of rapid infections.
