Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Sunday reported 7,598 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 513,241. Additionally, 316 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.
Likewise, the Health Ministry has recorded 193 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The ministry on May 19 recorded 246 deaths, the highest daily number. As of Sunday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 6,346. Presently, there are 115,547 active cases in Nepal.
According to the Health Ministry, 19,926 total tests were carried out in the last 24 hours of which 18,965 were RT-PCR tests while 961 were antigen tests.
Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 2,821 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu logged 1,761 cases, Lalitpur logged 694 cases, and Bhaktapur logged 366 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.
As many as 7,664 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Sunday, a total of 391,348 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 76.3 per cent.
As of Sunday, a total of 2,916,468 persons have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 115,547 persons staying in isolation while 873 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.
More than 166.45 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 3,587,382 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in December, 2019, a Reuters tally showed as of 9:08 am, on Sunday, May 23, 2021.
The World Health Organisation referred to it as a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
