The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Tuesday reported 225 COVID-related deaths, the highest daily numbers. With the inclusion of dead body management statistics provided by the COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre (CCMC) and Nepali Army, the nationwide death toll from the viral disease reached 4,084.

Likewise, the ministry also reported record-high 9,317 cases that have taken the nationwide tally to 413,111 on Tuesday.

Currently, Nepal's COVID-19 case fatality rate stands at 1.3 per cent. At least 2,385 people who succumbed to the contagion were in the age group of 60 years and above, the ministry's bar graph shows.

In the valley, Kathmandu recorded 50 deaths from COVID-19 while Lalitpur and Bhaktapur registered six and a dozen deaths respectively, in the past 24 hours.

Earlier, the MoHP had reported 139 deaths, the highest daily numbers till Monday

The coronavirus along with the new variant double mutant known as B.1.167 has been taking the death toll on the health care system of Nepal. This variant is lethal to all age groups causing a higher fatality rate.

Last year, Nepal reported a low fatality of COVID-19 but the new variant has hit the health care system with hospitals facing a shortage of beds and also oxygen. Many patients have lost their lives to this new variant due to a shortage of oxygen supply.

Nepal reported its first death from COVID-19 on May 16 last year. A 29-year-old woman from Sindhupalchok district had succumbed to the viral disease.
