The Sikh community of Banke is busy preparing for the 323rd Khalsa Sajna Day and Baishakhi festival. The Baishakhi festival, which was affected by the Corona epidemic last year, is being prepared to be celebrated with pomp and circumstance this year, said Rajendra Singh Sardar, head of the Guru Nanak Singh Sabha in Nepalgunj.
According to him, on the occasion of the Baishakhi festival, a discourse with Bhandara will be held on April 15 and a procession will be taken out in Nepalgunj on April 16 and martial arts will be shown. "Baishakhi festival is the foundation day. We have been celebrating it with grandeur. We will celebrate this year as well, ”said Sardar.
There are around 7,000 Sikhs in Banke. Sikh communities are scattered in Banke's Duduwa Gaonpalika-6, Sikhanpurwa, Nepalgunj Sub-Mahanagarpalika-15, Jamunah and Janaki Gaonpalika, Ward No. 2, Vanakatwa. There are more than 25,000 Sikhs in Nepal.
The festival is held to give information about one's religion and customs, said Sardar Sardar of Gurudwara Guru Nanak Singh Sabha.
