The United States government has warned against travel to 80% of world due to coronavirus.

The United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations held discussions regarding the impact of the coronavirus in Nepal. During the Senate meeting on COVID-19 and the international response of the United States, Chris Murphy, a Senator from Connecticut, had raised the issue of the impact of the virus on Nepal.

He said that the people of Nepal were at present facing massive problems due to the spread of the coronavirus and also mentioned the help recently provided by USAID. Senator Murphy also expressed his concerns that Nepal was facing further difficulties due to the restrictions imposed by India on the export of vital medicines and medical equipment.

Jeremy Konyndyk, who is serving as Senior Advisor coordinating agency-wide COVID efforts at USAID, said that the situation in Nepal is serious and that a majority of people who are being tested are found to have been infected with the coronavirus. He also mentioned that the rate of infection in Nepal is considerably high and informed the Senate that the USAID is making further plans to assist Nepal.

Meanwhile, Yubaraj Khatiwada, Nepali Ambassador to the United States, said that he was happy that Nepal’s COVID issue had been raised in the Senate. He stated that the help that America has provided and will provide to Nepal in the fight against COVID-19 holds a lot more significance than all the help that the US has provided over the years to Nepal.

Khatiwada informed that the embassy has made various concerned authorities in the United States aware of the situation that has developed in Nepal due to the coronavirus. He also said that the embassy has apprised and requested the American government of the various types of assistance that Nepal needs at the moment.
