The tanker drivers, who have launched a protest demanding that the government provide them with COVID-19 vaccines, have halted the transportation of petroleum products in Bagmati Province today for the second day in a row.

The drivers stopped the transportation of fuel within the province and also from Barauni and Amlekhgunj.

The Nepal Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association has said that unless and until they are provided with the vaccines they will not transport petroleum products.

The association had written a letter to Nepal Oil Corporation on Sunday mentioning that the drivers will not transport petroleum products which fall under essential goods until they are administered the coronavirus vaccine. The association had added that a number of tanker drivers, helpers, and their family members had lost their lives during the second wave of the virus, and drivers do not want to take further risks now.

The tanker drivers’ association had stated that it had forwarded a letter to Nepal Oil Corporation on three occasions seeking vaccines against the coronavirus but there had been no response till date. Hence, the association has this time decided to halt the transportation of petroleum products to put pressure on the government.
