Sunwal Municipality of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West) has brought into operation a temporary COVID-19 hospital along with high dependency unit (HDU) in the wake of increasing number of COVID-19 patients.
There are 19 beds with oxygen and the HDU along with specialist doctors in the hospital. Now, the COVID-19 patients except those needing ventilators, would be treated with every facility, said Municipality Mayor Bhim Bahadur Thapa.
The hospital is run at two-storey building of Child Learning Centre at Somnath of Sunwal-1. The first storey has isolation wards with oxygen and the second the HDU.
There are doctors and health workers available round the clock. Currently, 14 COVID-19 patients are receiving treatment at the hospital.
The Sarbottam Cement Industry provided the medical equipment worth some Rs 7 million for the operation of HDU at the hospital.
Dr Chandra Shekhar Yadav informed that there are two doctors and 12 health workers in the hospital. Three additional doctors are being managed for HDU service, added Mayor Thapa.
Chief of District Coordination Committee, Shiva Shankar Raya, claimed that the hospital was exemplary in the district on COVID-19 crisis management. "The hospital has been providing quality service. It is a great aid to control coronavirus. The management here is also effective. The assistance from all sides made it possible," he stressed.
As many as 435 people were infected with coronavirus at Sunwal. Among them, 33 succumbed to COVID-19.
The municipality is reaching every COVID-19 patient staying at home isolation and providing necessary treatment and counseling. Those in need of oxygen are supplied it immediately by the municipality. Similarly, health workers are mobilized from all 13 health facilities.
The municipality has also managed transportation facility for those willing to do PCR test, reaching Butwal, every day.
