Three involved in trafficking, peddling acid arrested in Kaski

Police in Kaski district on Thursday arrested three persons allegedly involved in trafficking and peddling acid in Pokhara Metropolitan City.

Acting on a tip-off that a large amount of acid was being trafficked in Kaski, police intensified the investigation. 

During a security check conducted at Gaihrapatan in Pokhara-4, on Thursday, police personnel deployed from Kaski District Police Office (DPO) seized 1,000 kilograms of acid in a container without any seal or label, being transported on the jeep (Ga 3 Pa 1143). Subsequently, the jeep driver Min Bahadur Bharati (19) of Jitpursimara Sub-Metropolitan City-15 in Bara district and passenger Keshab Singh (29) of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-2, Morang district were arrested. Police also impounded the vehicle used for transporting the banned harmful chemical. 

During the investigation, police also raided Abhishek Auzar shop based in Mauriya Tole in Pokhara -2 and recovered another 350 kg of acid that was neither sealed nor labelled and kept for selling.  Subsequently, police arrested the shop owner Bal Bahadur BK (63) of Baglung Municipality-7, Baglung district.

In Nepal, the industries that use acid and other harmful chemicals are only be allowed to use such chemicals in the required amount as per Section (5) of the Acid and Other Harmful Chemicals (Regulation) Ordinance, 2077 BS, which came into effect on March 29, 2021.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the arrestees under the Acid and Other Harmful Chemicals (Regulation) Ordinance, 2077 BS while the investigation is underway, the DPO informed.
