KATHMANDU: The base camp of Tilicho Lake, a popular tourist destination in Manang, has now been connected to the national power grid.

According to the Nepal Electricity Authority, a 50 kVA transformer has been installed at the base camp, located at an altitude of 4,250 meters above sea level. Currently, 10 hotels, a health post, and several eateries are operating in the area. The number of electricity customers is 15.

The base camp is situated within the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), and the new power connection is expected to bring significant convenience to both residents and visitors.

Chyolpa Gurung, the ward chair of Manang Ngisyang rural municipality-9, said that previously, the area relied on solar power and diesel generators.

With the availability of national grid power, an oximeter has been installed at the base camp to assist trekkers traveling from there to Tilicho Lake and now the use of cooking gas has been reduced in the area.
