UN Secretary-General Guterres visiting Nepal

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is visiting Nepal from October 29 to November 1.

A meeting of the council of ministers held yesterday approved the formal visit of UN Secretary-General Guterres, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma said.

Likewise, the cabinet meeting also approved the US visit of Foreign Affairs Minister NP Saud from October 25 to November 2.

According to Minister Sharma, the cabinet meeting has given a theoretical approval to formulate the bill on the National Human Rights Commission.

Furthermore, the cabinet meeting approved the acquisition of 107.97 hectares of land needed for the development of Lower Arun Hydropower Project with the capacity of 669 megawatt. Indian company Sutlej Electricity Corporation is scheduled to develop the project.

The cabinet meeting also provided theoretical approval to the Lubmini Province Government to organize an international conference on Children, Development and Peace Building.

Minister Sharma stated that the cabinet meeting approved the visit of Election Commissioner Sagun Shumsher JBR to Bangladesh in a seminar on election to be held from October 28-30.

Furthermore, the cabinet also approved the visit of Minister of Education and Science Technology Asok Kumar Rai and Secretary Suresh Adhikari to the 42nd general assembly of UNESCO to take place in Paris of France from November 7.

Minister for Health and Population Mohan Bahadur Basnet and Secretary Dev Kumari Guragain have been permitted to attend a conference to be held in Bangkok, Thailand on November 15-17. Likewise, Amuda Shrestha and Padma Bahadur Giri have been nominated as members in the council of the Medical Sciences National Academy as per the Medical Science National Academy, 2063 BS.

The government has extended its best wishes to all Nepali at home and abroad on the occasion of the cultural festivals, including Dashain, Tihar, Nepal Sambat and Chhath.

The cabinet meeting has decided to create a temporary post of Information Technology Officer at the Office of the Attorney General for the current fiscal year.

The meeting has allowed the import of nuts, peas and black pepper for industrial purposes. Likewise, the cabinet has approved a delegation headed by Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Shakti Bahadur Basnet to participate in the energy forum of the Asia-Pacific to be held in Thailand.

The cabinet has granted theoretical approval for the procurement of trained human resource, necessary equipment and goods for the railway service operation and maintenance through government to government agreement.

The cabinet has granted approval for creating 14 temporary officer level positions for different services, groups and sub-groups for rail, metro rail, monorail development projects.

The cabinet has decided to award prizes to the winners and medal-recipient players, main coach, assistant coach, physio and manager of international level cricket and boxing championship.

The cabinet has granted approval to a delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Purna bahadur Khadka to attend the UN peacekeeping ministerial meeting to be organized in Ghana by the UN on December 5-6.

Likewise, Ramkrishna Nirala has been appointed to the vacant post of general manager of National Residence Company Limited.

Arjun Jung Thapa has been promoted to the gazette special class towards Nepal Engineering Service group, Minister Sharma shared.
