Various sister organisations of CPN UML have urged the administration to immediately arrest Narottam Baidhya, a Nepali Congress lawmaker of the National Assembly of Bagmati Province, for his offensive remarks on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
The representatives of the CPN UML affiliated organisations today met Home Minister Khagaraj Adhikari and mentioned that Baidhya should be booked under a criminal act and arrested immediately. They submitted a letter to Minister Adhikari demanding stringent action against the Nepali Congress lawmaker.
They also lodged a protest stating that Nepali Congress had chosen to remain silent on the issue even when one of their lawmakers had made such a derogatory comment. The letter also mentions that if Nepali Congress is a party that believes in non-violence and upholds the dignity of the parliamentary process then it should immediately suspend Baidhya from the National Assembly.
Meanwhile, they also said that is regrettable that the lawmakers of the National Assembly did not protest even when Baidhya made the comment.
While speaking during the announcement of the policies and programmes of the provincial government on Friday, Baidhya had stated that he would prefer to be like Nathuram Godse against Prime Minister Oli. After receiving flak from different quarters, Baidhya has already apologised at the National Assembly on Saturday. There were also calls for him to be booked under a criminal offence.
Meanwhile, Baidhya had claimed that a criminal case could not be registered against him as he had spoken based on the freedom of speech guaranteed by Article 187 of the Constitution of Nepal.
