Chairpersons of Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal (JSP-N) Mahanta Thakur and Upendra Yadav have issued a joint statement today. In the past couple of weeks the JSP was on the verge of breaking up due to the intra-party differences regarding the formation of a new government after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli lost the vote of confidence in the Parliament.

Yadav was in favour of forging an alliance with Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Centre) to form a new government whereas Thakur was against the idea.

The leaders through the statement have stated that all party activities and future course of action will be based as per the party’s constitution. They have also mentioned that the party will move ahead as per the party’s rules and regulations and organisational structure.

Thakur and Yadav have also stated that the JSP will not be joining the government at the moment. The statement mentions that JSP will play the role of a responsible opposition party. However, the statement mentions that if a government is formed through national consensus of all parties or if it gets an opportunity to lead the government then JSP will join the government.

The statement further states that all internal disputes must be resolved within the party by adhering to the provisions mentioned in the party’s constitution. It has also appealed to all party leaders, members and well-wishers to collaborate so as to make JSP a stronger political party.
