According to the Election Commission, 1,657 candidates have registered for the post of mayor. 975 people have been nominated for the post of deputy mayor.
Similarly, 1,610 people have registered nomination papers for the post of chairperson of 460 village municipalities. 1,050 people have registered nomination papers for the post of vice-president.
The number of candidates for the top post at the local level has reached 2,721. The number of candidates for the post of deputy chief is 1,606.
A total of 12,312 candidates have registered for the post of ward chairman of 6,743 wards across the country. The number of nominees for ward members is 12,517. Similarly, 7,693 people have given their candidacies for the post of women members while 6,711 people have given their candidacies for the post of Dalit women members.
The Election Commission has stated that the number of candidates will increase as those waiting in line till 5 pm will be able to register their candidacies.
