Nepali Congress (NC) senior leader Ramchandra Poudel has assured that the newly published date for NC's upcoming 14th national convention will not be changed.

At a press conference organized by the Nepal Press Union at Janakpurdham today, leader Poudel reiterated that the national convention will be held at the stipulated time. "There will not be any change in the date of the national convent publicized recently. It will take place from December 10-12 this year," Poudel said.

Prior to this, the ruling NC had announced to hold its much-awaited national convention from November 25-29.

Stating that the public's confidence over NC had increased lately, the senior leader asserted that he was working towards making NC the beacon of hope for the public and a strong catalyst for democracy.

He clarified that it won't matter to the party that if even a candidate from the Madheshi community was elected to the party's president position. "The decision for electing party president should be left to the cadres. One should earn the post rather than get it at the behest of someone and something. I won't have issues if anyone from the Madhesi community is elected to the top post of the party."

According to him, the party needs the leadership who could tackle the opponents and introduce programmes aimed at social transformation. "Rather than youth, Madheshi (people of Tarai), Padhadi (people of hilly areas), and indigenous communities, we need someone who could lead the country."

On a different note, Poudel said that NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba was elected as the Prime Minister as per the Constitution's process, provisions and essence. He also clarified that although NC was currently leading a coalition government, it will contest the upcoming general on its own.
