The ultimatum given by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also the chairperson of CPN UML, to leaders of the Madhav Kumar Nepal led faction to withdraw their signatures supporting Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba will end today.
The meeting of the Central Committee members of the party held on Friday had given a deadline till 5 pm today for the faction to withdraw its signatures. PM Oli has mentioned that if the signatures are not withdrawn then the concerned members will be expelled from the party.
Meanwhile, the Nepal faction has already stated it will not withdraw the signatures as sought by Oli. This has made the efforts to ensure unity within the party even more difficult.
A total of 23 lawmakers of the CPN UML had signed to elect Deuba as the prime minister of the country. It is now up to Chairperson Oli on what further action he will initiate against these lawmakers if they do not withdraw their signatures.
