The meeting of the Standing Committee of CPN-UML has concluded. The party has issued a statement mentioning that the meeting’s attention had been drawn to the fact that some members had decided to vote against party candidate Ram Bahadur Thapa in the just concluded by-election to the National Assembly of Bagmati Province.

The statement adds that its attention has also been drawn to the fact that some members had gone against the party’s direction during the by-election held today which is against the spirit of the party.

The Standing Committee meeting also paid its respect to late Yog Narayan Yadav who was a central member of the party and also a former parliamentarian. The statement adds that the Tarai-Madhesh region has lost a capable leader.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also the chairperson of the party, apprised the Standing Committee members of the government’s efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country. The meeting concluded that the efforts made by the government to fight against the spread of the COVID-19 were satisfactory.

The meeting also mentioned that efforts must be made to receive more foreign aid and that there should be no shortage of oxygen, medicines and other medical supplies for the treatment of patients infected with COVID-19. It also stated that laws need to be amended, and everybody must unite in the fight against the coronavirus.
