Climbers trickle in Mt Dhaulagiri base camp for autumn expedition

Climbers aspiring to climb Mt Dhaulagiri in Myagdi district this autumn are arriving its base camp gradually.

The climbers accompanied by the support Sherpa group are trickling in the base camp of the seventh highest mountain in the world.

Equipments and gears needed for the expedition are brought to the base camp by the Sherpas, said Indra Sherchan, a local tourism entrepreneur who also facilitates the climbers in the base camp.

The first group of climbers was flown to the base camp while mule and donkeys had ferried the goods needed for the expedition and daily consumables items needed during the expedition, informed Sherchan.

More climbers were on their way to the base camp, he added.

So far 10 climbers of a single group have obtained the permit to climb the 8,167-metres mountain in coming winter. Over Rs 1.1 million has been collected in revenue from five male and five female climbers eyeing to scale Mt Dhaulagiri this autumn, according to the Department of Tourism.

This year, altogether 339 climbers from 47 countries have got permit for climbing altogether 10 mountains this autumn which earned the State over Rs 30 million in revenue, the Department said.
