Government extends ban on 'luxury goods'

The government, which banned the import of 10 luxury items four months ago to increase foreign exchange reserves, has opened up the import of some items.

On Tuesday, the government decided to open the import of some items, such as; cigarettes and tobacco products, toys, snacks including Kurkure/Kurmure/Lays, color TV, and diamonds.

However, import restrictions on all types of prepared liquor, jeeps, cars and vans, motorcycles (above 150 cc), and smartphones have been kept intact.
