Security personnel have held a total of 2,098 vehicles for defying the prohibitory order in the three districts of Kathmandu valley on Saturday.

In Kathmandu only, 1,667 vehicles — 68 heavy vehicles, 3,36 four-wheelers and 1,263 two-wheelers — have been held for defying order, Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, Ramshah Path informed NepalNews.

Likewise, Traffic Police in Lalitpur district have held a total of 311 vehicles — 9 heavy vehicles, 51 four-wheelers and 251 two-wheelers, the MTPD informed.

Similarly, Traffic Police in Bhaktapur have held a total of 120 vehicles — 9 heavy vehicles, 16 four-wheelers and 95 two-wheelers — on the third day of the Prohibitory order in the valley.

All the vehicles have been kept on hold as earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs had warned to take stringent action against those defying the prohibitory order.

Previously, 5,703 vehicles were held on Friday and 4,070 others on the first day of the prohibitory order.

On the first and the second day, security personnel had freed the offending vehicles as well as people defying order after reprimanding them and warning them not to repeat the offence again.

The prohibitory order imposed from Thursday will remain effective for a fortnight in the valley and more than a dozen of districts to break the chain of transmission of novel coronavirus infection.

The prohibitory order has been issued as per Section 2 of the Communicable Disease Act, 2020 and Sub-section 3 of Section 6 of Local Administration Act, 2028.
