Security personnel held at least 5,703 vehicles and 4,161 people for disobeying the prohibitory order in three districts of Kathmandu valley on Friday.
The prohibitory order imposed from Thursday will remain effective for a fortnight.
Security personnel in Kathmandu held at least 4,705 vehicles — 102 heavy vehicles, 3,343 four-wheeler and 1,260 two-wheeler — for plying the road without a permit that has to be obtained from the respective District Administration Office, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Ramesh Kumar Basnet at Metropolitan Police Range, Teku.
Likewise, 1,635 people — 1,240 males and 395 females — were held for defying order and neglecting the health protocols by not wearing masks and moving out to the streets, till 7:00 pm on Friday.
SP Basnet said all of those held by the security personnel for defying the order were freed after reprimanding them ad warning them not to repeat the offence again.
Likewise, there were a total of 873 vehicles — 171 four-wheeler and 702 two-wheeler — plying the road without permit in Lalitpur district, spokesperson for Lalitpur District Police Office, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Arjun Maharjan informed.
Similarly, a total of 2,292 people — 1,506 males and 786 females — were held for not wearing masks and disobeying order, DSP Maharjan told NepalNews.
Similarly, Spokesperson for Bhaktapur District Police Office, SP Deepak Raj Giri said security personnel in the district had held a total of 234 people for not wearing the mask and going out to the street. SP Giri said 48 offenders were charged with a fine of Rs 100 each while the remaining 148 others were freed after reprimanding and warning them to take stringent action against them.
Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, Ramshah Path informed that a total of 125 vehicles — 25 heavy vehicles, 26 four-wheeler and 74-two-wheeler — were held for defying the order on Friday.
A total of 4,070 people were held on the first day of the prohibitory order on Thursday.
The prohibitory order has been imposed in more than a dozen of districts to break the chain of transmission of novel coronavirus infection.
The prohibitory order has been issued as per Section 2 of the Communicable Disease Act, 2020 and Sub-section 3 of Section 6 of Local Administration Act, 2028.
