KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has fined the ruling CPN-UML Rs 100,000 for littering that occurred during a public meeting.
The fine was issued on Friday, December 22, after the event held on an open road at Durbarmarg resulted in significant littering, which polluted the area.
Municipal Police Inspector Leela Raj Gachha informed the UML central office that the penalty was imposed under the Waste Management Act of 2068 BS and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Finance Act of 2081 BS.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah, known as Balen, is an independent official, while the UML is headed by Prime Minister KP Oli.
In a similar incident last year, KMC fined the RPP Rs 5,222 for littering and damaging a traffic island during an event at Bhrikuti Mandap.
