A book in the memory of the late Jagat Mardan Thapa, one of Nepal’s musical legends has hit the shelves. Thapa, a resident of Lazimpat, Kathmandu, was active in the field of music in his youth. He was involved in singing, music and writing at that time.

At the time, the only radio station in Nepal, Radio Nepal, used to play his songs almost daily.

He also wrote plays and acted in plays.

However after getting a government job, his musical inclinations were on the decline. After retiring from the government job, he returned to the music industry. He had learned music for nine consecutive years by appointing Prabhuraj Dhakal, a connoisseur of classical music, as his teacher. At the age of 80, he used to perform on stage singing solo at every birth anniversary.

He used to sing solos and perform duets with grandchildren. In the same way, he used to release a new song album in every program. These programs came alive with the youthful exuberance of the 80 year Thapa who simply enamored each and every audience member present.

In his years, Jagat Mardan Thapa recorded many songs. In this process, he even went to Mumbai and recorded a duet with famous Indian singer Usha Mangeshkar.

His 5 Giti albums have already been released and he was preparing for his sixth album.

For his contributions to the field of music at such an age, President Bidyadevi Bhandari decorated him with the highest honor and regards.

Unfortunately he was never able to receive the award; Jagat Mardan Thapa, who was admitted to the hospital after suffering from COVID where he passed away. His unfinished sixth-speed album was released a year after her death. On this occasion, the book was published in his memory.

After the demise of Jagat Mardan Thapa, a revolving fund will be established to ensure that his contribution to music shall remain ever -present. Even though Jagat Mardan isn’t here with us today, his contributions to the field of music shall remain forever etched into Nepali Music History.
