Musician Raju Chaudhary, 28, succumbs to Aplastic Anemia

Vocalist and guitarist Raju Chaudhary 28, of the Radium band from Birtamode, Jhapa, who was popular as a musician lost the battle to Aplastic Anemia.

Swapnil Sharma who had been working to raise funds for his treatment said, “He had a fever and was going through health problems for the last two months. He was admitted to BMC hospital in Jhapa about 45 days ago. Later he was transferred to Kathmandu, Blood Hospital in Dhobighat where his health further deteriorated.”

Chaudary was suffering from Aplastic Anemia, a rare disease where the body stops producing White Blood Cells (WBC) The condition leaves the patient fatigued and more prone to infections and uncontrolled bleeding.

Chaudary’s band member, Bishal Agrawal, says, “The doctor had suggested taking him to India for a bone marrow transplant because in Nepal it takes up to 6-7 months to do the transplant. We were also told that he did not have that much time.”

He was taken for further treatment to BL Kapoor Hospital in New Delhi, India accompanied by his two brothers to check if they were a suitable match for the transplant. Musicians, celebrities, music lovers, and supporters had tried to help with the cost of treatment by raising funds.

But last night, Chaudhary’s pressure dropped suddenly. He also had difficulties in breathing and had to be shifted to a ventilator. While he was in intensive care, his blood infection spread. The hospital declared him dead late night on September 9.

Chaudhary was the co-vocalist of his band and also ran his own music studio.
