Nepali Artist teaching the Tabla in the US

Sagar Khatiwada from Ilam district teaches tabla or classical music in New Hampshire, USA. He holds a Master's degree in tabla from the Hindu University in Banaras, India. He teaches music at a local community music school. He also takes private classes for various students in which he teaches classical music as well as Nepali music.

His students include people from different countries living in the United States as well as people of Nepali origin.

Prior to this, he used to teach classical music at Ratnarajya Laxmi Campus under Tribhuvan University in Nepal.

Tabla player Sagar Khatiwada is also a member of a band that includes foreign artists. Apart from tabla, Indian sarangi, piano and mandolin players have been participating in the band. The band, called Himalaya Heritage Performing Arts, has been performing music from time to time.

Along with this, Khatiwada is also participating in various musical programs organized by the Nepali community.

Tabla player Khatiwada is assisted in his musical activities by his wife. His wife Hari Maya Adhikari had graduated from Banaras Hindu University with a master's degree. She has been teaching classical singing to other people in the United States as well as giving presentations in various programs.



His daughter, who is currently studying in the United States, has also composed English songs. The Khatiwada couple had gone to the US in 2011 after winning the DV lottery.

Tabla player Sagar Khatiwada had given a presentation in the office of Nepal News while he was on leave from the United States. He was accompanied by his brother Durga Prasad Khatiwada on flute and singer brother Rajan Khatiwada on singing.
