Kankeshwori Temple is a 184-year-old temple in the Kathmandu. The temple is dedicated to the Goddess Durga (Goddess of strength and power). Inside the temple, there is no statue and one can find tantric stones representing Chamunda, a fearsome incarnation of the goddess. During the eighth day of the Dashain festival locals visit the temple to celebrate Kankeshwari (Chamunda/Devi). More than just a single temple, the entire Kankeswari complex is a treasure trove of shrines, statues, chaitya, and pillars. The temple holds a very important role in maintaining the religious significance of our culture and religion in Nepal. After the destructive earthquake in 2015, the temple was damaged. It is to be built at a cost of Rs 31 million. The committee of the temple has taken the lead to rebuild and maintain the dignity of the temple.
In 2016 Kankeshwari became part of the UNESCO Heritage Walk, along with other historical and cultural sites from Kathmandu Durbar Square to Swayambhu .
