WASHINGTON DC: Former President Donald Trump has been projected to win the 2024 presidential election, securing a second term in the White House.
Trump emerged victorious over Vice President Kamala Harris, making him the 47th President of the United States, according to Fox News.
His win comes after an election cycle filled with remarkable events and extraordinary challenges, including two assassination attempts on his life.
Trump will become the first president in U.S. history to serve two nonconsecutive terms since Grover Cleveland, who last achieved this in 1892.
Trump was first elected in 2016, defeating Hillary Clinton, and ran on a platform of "Make America Great Again."
After losing his re-election bid to Joe Biden in 2020 during the global COVID-19 pandemic, Trump has now regained the presidency in 2024, updating his slogan to "Make America Great Once Again."
Trump officially launched his campaign for a second term on November 15, 2022, shortly after the midterm elections.
Throughout his campaign, he criticized the Biden-Harris administration, particularly its reversal of his policies, which he argued contributed to rising inflation and the worsening border crisis.
Despite a crowded Republican primary, Trump quickly became the clear frontrunner, defeating all of his rivals, who later endorsed him. He won every primary contest.
Although he initially faced off against President Biden, who was running for re-election, Biden’s poor performance in their first debate in June led to mounting pressure from within the Democratic Party to drop out of the race.
By July, Biden suspended his campaign, effectively clearing the path for Trump’s return to the presidency.
